Quick answer

Processing is modelled at ~2.9% + £0.30 on item + shipping. Boost spend goes in the ads % field. Fashion returns matter — leave an honest rate.

Depop fees UK — not the old 10%

Many older guides still say Depop takes 10%. For most UK sellers that selling fee is gone. What remains is mainly payment processing around 2.9% + £0.30 on item + shipping. Boosts are optional and should go in ads % when they convert.

That makes Depop look cheap next to eBay business — until fashion returns and boost spend stack. Always leave an honest return rate.

Worked example: £38 fashion sale

Price £38, cost £12, postage £3.50 charged / £2.50 cost. Processing on ~£41.50 is roughly £1.50. With 0% ads you keep around £30 before returns. At a 12% return rate the expected take-home drops — which is why “Depop is free” folklore fails in wardrobe flips.

Depop vs Vinted

Private Vinted often charges £0 seller platform fee; Depop charges processing. Audience and sell-through differ. Run both calculators (or the Depop vs Vinted guide) with the same postage and return rate before you list the same piece twice at one price.

How to use every field

These fields are the same idea on every platform calculator — only the fee stack behind the scenes changes.

  • Selling price — what the buyer pays for the item (before postage).
  • Product cost — what you paid for the item, including packaging materials if you want them in the number.
  • Shipping charged — postage the buyer pays you. Marketplace fees often apply to item + postage.
  • Your shipping cost — the label you actually buy. Charging £3.99 and spending £4.40 is a fee you invent for yourself.
  • Ads % — promoted listings, boosts, Meta ads or TikTok spend as a share of the sale. Leave 0 if you never promote.
  • Return rate — expected % of sales that come back. Fashion often needs 8–15%; electronics less.
  • VAT on platform fees — turn on if you cannot reclaim VAT on marketplace fees (typical for many private / non-VAT sellers).
